Seymour Max Selig

Seymour Max (Sig) Selig, age 94, of Patchogue, New York, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in McLean, Virginia. Seymour moved to the Washington, DC region in 1958. A consummate public servant, Seymour dedicated more than 30 years of his professional life to the Office of Naval Research.

Seymour served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955 and later was the Managing Editor for the Naval Logistics Quarterly at the Office of Naval Research. After his first retirement, he shared his vast knowledge as a Docent at the National Building Museum as well as the Museum of the United States Navy.

In his free time, Seymour indulged in his love for Military History. He was a member and the past Secretary of the Association of the Oldest Inhabitants of the District of Columbia. Another of his hobbies was computers and he was an early adopter of the personal home computer being one of the first owners of an Apple II. He was also a longtime member of Beth El Hebrew Congregation in Alexandria, Virginia.

A proud father to his sons Max and Benjamin, Seymour cherished his role as a Zeyde to his grandchildren, Cooper and Kaitlyn. He will be dearly missed by his family, including his cousin Martin Hochberg. Seymour was preceded in death by his sister Sylvia Hochberg, his father Max Selig, and his mother Bessie Selig.

A Funeral Service will be held at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Virginia on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at 0900, followed by burial at Quantico National Cemetery at 1130. A mourner’s lunch will take place in Arlington, Virginia, with Shiva beginning at 1930.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Building Museum, U.S. Naval Institute, or Jewish War Veterans in memory of Seymour “Sig” Selig.
